Jailbreaking an iPhone is technical term used to mean freeing or removing the limitations that were imposed by the carrier such as the Apple, Verizon, or AT&t. it can also be defined as hacking to gain access of the iPhone where the users are mot supposed to interfere with. The hackers may intend to install other programs suitable to their needs and or to use the device with another cellular network.
The users are also able to add an additional application that allows the changing of the iPhone’s wallpapers, themes, application icons, status bar, weather backgrounds and even the keyboard. At times some programs are not approved to be run on the iPhone and Jailbreaking allows them to be run.
Most jailbreaking tools will automatically install Cydia, which is a native iOS that is used to find and install software suitable for the jailbroken iOS devices. Since the software programs which are available through the Cydia are not necessary to adhere to the App store guidelines, most of them are not self-contained but merely customizations and extensions of the iOS. Some users are only interested using their devices on networks other than the AT@T and they purchase with the intention of jailbreaking.
Unlocked iPhones are faster and easy to open. There is no need to download software onto the desktop that evade the jailbreak-iTunes updates. The whole process takes a considerably short time with Wi-Fi connection. Many users are not able to connect to Face Time chat over a video with a 3G and jailbreaking is only possible to have a video chat only with good signal of Wi-Fi connections.
However much it may look desirable to jailbreak an iPhone, the consequences may not be good. The warrant of the user will immediately be rendered void. Therefore as the user encounters problems, he will not be addressed by the Apple, Verizon, or the AT&T to resolve the problems. The jailbreaking software can completely disable the phone hence rendering it useless and a loss to the user.
Data suck may be experienced with unlocking the device. This is situation where the continuous use of Face Time chat drains the life of the device out of the AT&T bandwidth caps with the use of 3G internet connection. This can only avoided if the user had subscribed to the unlimited data plan. Fixed and unlimited subscriptions may be costly to the user.
There is a possibility that the hackers can remotely install malware onto the user’s device. The malwares has the capability of distorting the user’s data, or even leak out the sensitive data stored in the device.
Surprisingly, jailbreaking has been made legal despite much complains about the infringements of their patents by the Apple. The main area of concern is that there is no law that states that the device must always remain locked. However statistics show the rise of users using the jailbroken devices. Therefore it is up to users to judge whether to jailbreak or not. They must weigh the consequences and most importantly the warrant being void.
